Depression Screening Day

Depression Screening Day

About a week ago, a friend of mine talked with me about how down she'd been feeling. It started as a general sense of "meh" but quickly spiraled into a deeper despair.

She felt overwhelmed and didn't know where to turn. It just made things worse.

She knew I worked in the field, and even though I am not a clinician she still saw me as a person who might hear her concern - and help her figure out where to turn first.

I did just that. Not just out of concern for my friend but also for the person I knew her to be before this depression took over. I knew that with a little help, she would be back to that fun-loving, gregarious person who enjoyed every single day of life.

National Depression Screening Day is a great time to take stock of your own knowledge - not just about depression and the signs of it, but also knowing where to send people who might need help to find the answers they seek.

And never forget that that person needing help might be you.
