What's your New Year goal?

making the bed

Here we are, just days into 2024, and I've already messed up on my goal for the new year. I'm not going to tell you how simple it is - really, really simple - bur it's something I didn't do all that well in 2023 and vowed I'd do better in 2024.

I did great on January 1st! I got up, made my bed and went about my day. January 2nd saw pretty much the same thing - albeit a little slower (I was, after all, heading back to work after a long weekend away!).

But this morning? Well, let's just say that routine didn't get done so fast. In my defense, I decided I'd make the bed after I showered and got dressed. But by that time, my dog had climbed into my warm bed and taken over. Moving her was just going to be a bear, so I decided I'd do it when I brushdd my teeth after breakfast.

Enter the dog again, taking up space on the unmade bed and refusing to budge so I could do what I needed to do.

Researchers say that sticking to goals made for the new year isn't always easy. There are things that get in the way from time to time, and that's very true when you have a pet. But it's also important to do your best to accomplish somethiing every day and feel good about what you've done - even if that one thing is just making your bed.

You won't always get it perfect. The obstacles that can come your way may be daunting and can mmaybe cause you some stress. It's all good, though. And there's always tomorrow.

That's what I'm telling myself today. It's all good, because tomorrow I'll get up and try again.

And I'll succeed. You can, too.
